Rethinking careers.

Being trapped in an unfulfilling job can be an incredibly difficult and stressful situation. We all need to earn an income to make ends meet, yet money in itself doesn’t equate with fulfillment. Work plays a major role in our life as it consumes a good portion of our time and energy, thus it is important to have some meaningful connection to your work. Going through the motions day to day, to just put money on the table is a recipe for disaster. What can we do if we are trapped in an unfulfilling and stressful work environment? How can we pursue a career that brings meaning to our life rather than take away from it?

We need to examine what it is we are searching for in our job aside from monetary gain? Is this job a means to an ends or does it bring something of added value to our lives? Does the job bring out our strengths and help us fine tune skills or are we merely just going through motions putting in hours and then going on our merry way. Look deeper at your job, perhaps there is a way you can approach it from a different perspective and see how it can help you grow as a person and allow you to make a difference in the lives of others.

What can you do when it is clear the job is merely just a job and is bringing significant stress to your life? Pursue a career for something other than just money and find something you genuinely enjoy doing that helps you grow as a person. These are the very reason why people pursue careers where they can help build and improve the quality of life in others. Find what your passion is and seek something that will compliment your strengths and passion.

The 21st century is a unique time period as the very definition and concept of career is changing. More and more people are finding ways to earn an income in creative ways that not only meet their financial needs, but also help them grow as individuals. You can choose to pursue only the money, but then what happens when the money is gone, I urge you to look inside yourself and see what you have to offer and find a career that will compliment the things you bring to the table( eg. your strengths).
